daniel and I did a little trip around the southwest chasing wildflowers. I would say we were quite successful thanks to desertusa.com which helped us track where the desert wildflowers were blooming.
returning home I was eager to start on our small guestroom - painting, wallpapering and all the prep that goes with it. we are so grateful our roommate is flexible and swapped bedrooms with us so we live in the room that we are renovating. with the warmer weather we may stay in the sugar shack (a tiny house/work in progress) while we mud and sand the small guestroom.
mud season has left the usual parking spots in ruins and we are constantly wondering how much rock we will have to add to buck road to keep it pothole free. this inspired us to expand our current parking space from two vehicles to four. our neighbor with a tractor is just about up for anything. first step is to make a “wall” out of bucked logs or whatever else we can find. next we will have him regrade the current parking and move excess dirt to the new spots.
some other pesky, but worthwhile projects have been…
painting our back stairs - it used to be a dark stain and would show all the dirt. now it is a light color and brightened the whole stairwell.
scrapping the enamel off our kitchen sink - we had the option of buying a pristine condition $600 kitchen sink or a $150 scratch and dent sink. exact same style. we chose the $150 and re-enameled it. it started to peel months later and I always said that was a major hiccup on our end. we should have bought the $600. I decided to remove our enamel job and to my joy, underneath was a decent enough looking sink.
some musings
this planner caught my eye for the wallet/planner combo
both bedrooms have wallpaper from this artist. I love the pine needles and botany. the designs we used aren’t listed here.
this podcast has been a thoughtful listen for regenerative food systems
we had our first farm stay of the season. it was through hipcamp and they were visiting from portland to go on a maine gravel series bike ride that started near our house. we remembered last year seeing 30+ bikers pass by our house. we thought hard about a lemonade stand but couldn’t pull it off… this year.
happy spring
